Materials and Finishes

All our shelves are cut from 18mm board. We offer three materials, each suited to different caravan interiors and budgets. Hardwood lipping is available on two of the three options.

18mm

Standard board thickness is 18mm across all materials. We do not currently offer alternative thicknesses.

Bare MDF
Most affordable

Bare MDF

Medium-density fibreboard with a smooth, unfinished surface. Bare MDF is ready to prime and paint, making it ideal if you want to match your shelf exactly to your caravan's interior colour scheme. It is not pre-finished and will absorb moisture if left unsealed, so we recommend priming all surfaces before fitting.

Finish
Unfinished — smooth sanded surface
Best for
Painting, priming, or laminating to your own specification.
Care
Prime and paint before fitting. Avoid prolonged exposure to moisture.
Hardwood lipping is not available on bare MDF. The board edge can be filled and painted to a smooth finish instead.
Oak-Effect Board
Most popular

Oak-Effect Board

18mm MDF with a decorative oak-effect foil laminate applied to the face and back. This is not solid oak or real oak veneer — it is a printed foil finish that replicates the appearance of oak grain. The finish is durable and wipe-clean, and suits traditional or natural-look caravan interiors well.

Finish
Oak-effect foil laminate — wipe-clean
Best for
Traditional, natural, or wood-tone interiors.
Care
Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
Hardwood lipping is available on any combination of edges. The lipping is solid hardwood, which complements the oak-effect face and conceals the raw board edge for a clean, furniture-quality finish.
Grey Board
Contemporary

Grey Board

18mm MDF with a smooth grey foil laminate. The grey finish suits modern, minimalist, or Scandi-influenced caravan interiors. Like the oak-effect board, it is a foil-laminated finish rather than a painted surface, so it is durable and easy to keep clean.

Finish
Grey foil laminate — wipe-clean
Best for
Modern, minimalist, or neutral-tone interiors.
Care
Wipe clean with a damp cloth. Avoid abrasive cleaners.
Hardwood lipping is available on any combination of edges. The natural hardwood lipping provides a warm contrast against the grey face.

About hardwood lipping

Hardwood lipping is a solid wood strip applied to the edge of the board. It serves two purposes: it conceals the raw MDF edge for a cleaner, more finished appearance, and it adds a small amount of rigidity to the shelf. Lipping is available on the front, back, left, and right edges in any combination. Each lipped edge adds approximately 18mm to the finished dimension on that side — please account for this when measuring.

Lipping is not available on bare MDF. If you need a finished edge on a bare MDF shelf, we recommend filling and painting the edge after fitting.
